In December 2022, the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, together with the European Commission (DG CNECT) and DIGITALEUROPE, launched the Laptops for Ukraine initiative.
The goal was to provide educational institutions, hospitals, and communities affected by armed aggression with essential technical equipment, including laptops, tablets, and connectivity tools.
Laptops for Ukraine became an important initiative of technological support and a demonstration of solidarity and unity with the European community. Thanks to partners and engaged citizens across European countries, Ukrainian educational and healthcare institutions received substantial support. Today, more than 400,000 Ukrainian school students study remotely. Access to the internet and reliable digital resources is therefore critical to ensuring continuity of education, particularly in affected regions. We are sincerely grateful to our European partners for their trust and their readiness to support Ukraine

Citizens and private companies from EU countries contributed to the equipment collection through 17 hubs operating in 9 European Union countries.
When we launched the Laptops for Ukraine initiative, our aim was to ensure that Ukrainians remained connected even in the most difficult times, had access to information, and felt supported. Two and a half years later, more than 19,000 devices are already in use in schools, hospitals, and public institutions across Ukraine. I am proud of this result—it is a clear example of genuine European solidarity. Together, we managed to expand the European Emergency Response Mechanism by adding ICT equipment. This recognizes that technology is critically important today—both in times of war and during natural disasters

At the end of September, Ukraine received the final batch of equipment. In total, since the start of the initiative, Ukraine has received more than 19,000 devices.
This support helped address the most urgent needs of Ukrainian schools, hospitals, and other critical infrastructure facilities in regions affected by the war.
